BGE crews and contractors installed new equipment in a parking lot at Pimlico Race Course to power lighting and refrigeration for Baltimore City’s first drive-thru COVID-19 testing site.
The Maryland National Guard helped the city construct the temporary site to relieve the COVID-19 screening strain on local medical facilities. City officials told The Baltimore Sun that Pimlico was chosen for its accessibility. Screening began April 10.
Plans for a second testing site are underway. BGE is working with the city to supply power to that site as well.
BGE continues to support critical reliability needs of health care operations during the pandemic. In March, BGE proactively inspected electric equipment on 116 miles of overhead lines that serve hospitals and other major medical facilities across the company’s service area to identify and address any issues that could cause an outage.
