While you’re enjoying the sun this summer, be sure to keep these seasonal gas safety tips in mind:

  • Never tether your pet or anything else to your natural gas line or meter.
  • Never attach electrical grounding wires to natural gas pipes.
  • Stay clear of your gas meter when using a lawn mower or weed whacker.
  • Dead vegetation or discolored soil near a pipeline can indicate a leak.
  • Call Miss Utility at 811 before you dig in your yard, so you know where utility lines are buried.

If you smell gas – leave the premises, go at least 100 feet away, and call 911 immediately or BGE at 877.778.7798.
