When a storm rolls in, most of us are free to wait out the weather inside. Meanwhile, our lineworkers brave the elements to restore power as quickly and safely as possible. Through close collaboration with our control rooms and Emergency Preparedness organization, they can seamlessly switch to storm mode and climb poles, navigate roads blocked by fallen trees, and work 24/7 until every single customer who suffered an outage gets their power back.
This collaboration has led to multiple remarkable storm restoration efforts so far this summer. “Our customers need us most when they lose service, and because of BGE’s lineworkers’ and field employees’ professionalism and expertise, we have been able to return customers to power faster than our most optimistic models predicted. That is a testament to our people,” said BGE Chief Operating Officer Derrick Dickens.
These employees are also the ones who keep BGE’s systems in top shape, enabling us to power our communities every day. They inspect, maintain, and upgrade our electric and gas lines and equipment. This work prevents outages, reduces their duration when they occur, and keeps us safe.
“We know that our lineworkers and field employees are fiercely proud of the work they do and what they’ve built at BGE,” said Olivier. “And they should be – because of their constant vigilance, expertise, and ability to troubleshoot and problem solve during ever-changing conditions, our customers experienced the best reliability in the company’s history last year.”
