Powering Possibility: BGE Celebrates 10 Years of Workforce Development

by Alyson Gold-Weinberg  |  September 17th, 2025

BGE launched its first workforce development program in 2016 with a high school internship in Baltimore City that served 14 students. Only ten years later, BGE’s commitment to creating a strong, diverse talent pipeline has expanded exponentially.

For over a decade now, BGE has worked hand-in-hand with schools, nonprofits, government agencies, industry leaders, and community to build pathways to opportunity for individuals across central Maryland.

From sparking interest in STEM among middle schoolers to supporting adults in career transitions, BGE’s workforce development efforts are designed to meet people where they are and help them grow. These programs have grown to reach thousands annually, offering hands-on training, mentorship, scholarships, and career development opportunities that open the doors to quality jobs.

The impact is clear: lives transformed, families supported, and communities strengthened. And none of it happens alone. BGE’s success is rooted in strong partnerships with organizations that share a vision for equity, access, and a brighter future for all.

“At BGE, we believe that investing in people is the most powerful way to shape the future. I am proud of the work we’ve done to offer opportunity, build equity and create a brighter future for everyone,” says BGE CEO Tamla Olivier. “Ten years is only the beginning. Our commitment to the people of our community is steadfast. BGE will continue to power possibility for many years to come.”
