Across BGE’s service area, teams are using drones to inspect transmission lines in a smarter, safer way. These drones fly along critical transmission circuits, capturing detailed images of wires, insulators, and hardware to spot issues before they become problems.
In the past, BGE used helicopters for these inspections. Now, drones offer a better solution—they’re more cost-effective, safer, and can get close-up views from different angles. This helps crews plan maintenance and avoid emergency outages.
During storms, drone operators help restore power faster, showing customers that BGE is working hard behind the scenes. And with BGE and Exelon leading the way, drone use is growing across the industry.
It’s really fulfilling, especially out during storms, to kind of be that face of the company and let people know— hey, we’re out here, we’re using this really cool technology to try to get that power online faster.
By using drones, we’re finding innovative ways to serve our customers and communities.
