From High School Intern to Full-Time BGE Employee – Ajaughn Vidal’s Career Journey

by Shantell Roberts

In a powerful testament to the impact of career-focused education and corporate mentorship, Ajaughn Vidal, a 2023 Carver Vocational Technical High School graduate and former intern at Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE), transitioned from high school student to full-time professional in September 2023 – becoming a Protection Equipment Coordinator just weeks after completing his internship. Ajaughn was subsequently promoted to a Substation Tech Trainee role just 8 months later.

Ajaughn’s story began with BGE’s High School Internship Program, a six-week paid experience designed to equip students pursuing technical trades with real-world skills. Participants gain insight into the utility industry through a combination of training, professional development, and industry interaction.

Ajaughn embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm, quickly distinguishing himself among the 45 interns selected for the program. His dedication and aptitude led to a full-time offer as a Protection Equipment Coordinator shortly after the internship ended -a milestone that reflects both his personal drive and BGE’s commitment to workforce development.

Ajaughn’s success is a beacon for other Baltimore youth, showing that with the right support and opportunity, a high school internship can be the first step toward a fulfilling career. BGE’s partnerships with local career and technical education schools have created a pipeline of skilled, motivated young professionals ready to contribute to the region’s economic health.
