Flags Proudly Flying Again at The Baltimore Station

by Jane Ballentine  |  April 8th, 2026

Just blocks away from Fort McHenry, where Francis Scott Key penned the Star Spangled Banner in 1814, volunteers from the BGE Exelon Military Actively Connected (EMAC) group replaced tattered flags at The Baltimore Station.

Founded in 1989, The Baltimore Station provides veterans with therapy, classes, and a supportive environment to help them turn their lives around. Veterans had long been requesting that the American, POW and Maryland flags flying from the front of the building be retired and replaced – and The Baltimore Station knew just who to call.

For more than a decade, BGE has proudly served those who have served our country.  BGE’s employee resource group EMAC provides a support network for Exelon’s employees with prior, active, or reserve duty military service, and a venue for those with no military service who would like to support military issues and who represent BGE through various acts of community service, primarily in support of veterans or services supporting veterans.

EMAC has supported The Baltimore Station for many years, providing support in many forms, and was happy to providing a helping hand – in the form of a bucket truck and new flags – to replace those flags that were ready for retirement. It was a day that won’t soon be forgotten by the staff and veterans at The Baltimore Station, nor will it be forgotten by the BGE veterans and other volunteers who were there to witness the event.
