Preventing issues before they occur is one of the most important ways we can ensure the reliability of our system.
The way we do it? Through regular inspections of our electric and gas equipment.
BGE has miles of overhead distribution and transmission lines and gas pipelines across central Maryland. With a large service area to maintain, inspections of every piece of equipment can be time consuming and require significant resources.
I fly drones to make energy more safe and reliable.
So how does our team accomplish inspections in a timely fashion, while staying safe? We use drones! With this technology we can perform certain equipment inspections quickly and thoroughly – identifying issues and making repairs before they interrupt your service.
We can also use drones to monitor and inspect underground equipment, which is more difficult for our crews to reach.
In fact, we’re even deploying drones autonomously – meaning they don’t need a pilot on the ground to take off. We can remotely map a route for the drone to follow and hit “take off” from a computer miles away.
Drones are one of the many ways good energy connects us all.
